Live Tweeting in St. Louis

This past weekend was an important one for our soccer team as we traveled to St. Louis to play against Washington University. This is a reflection of what my time looked like from Friday evening to the game on Saturday. After practice on Friday, we packed our bags and left around 6 PM. The bus ride was very long and uncomfortable, but we embraced it and had a great time regardless. I also took the chance to send my first tweet on the bus ride to let everyone know I’d be live-tweeting our game the next day. I was a bit anxious thinking about how it would all turn especially because I didn’t know how I would use my phone while we were on the field, but it all worked out in the end! Saturday morning started well with a nice hotel breakfast. I enjoyed warm cinnamon rolls, crispy potatoes, biscuits, and sausage gravy. It was one of the better hotel breakfasts I've had, and it was the perfect start to the day. After breakfast, we went outside for some morning yoga. This helped us str...

The Power of Facebook!

Image
Growing up, I always thought Facebook was only meant for older generations. Now that I have Facebook, I’ve changed my mind about that statement I made when I was younger. I originally downloaded Facebook to stay connected and communicate with family all over the country. But as I got older, I started using it for various purposes, such as marketing my landscaping company, shopping and selling on the marketplace, and, of course, staying in touch with loved ones. Today, Facebook continues to succeed as the most popular social media platform in 2024. With over 3.05 billion active users each month, $48.68 billion in total ad revenue, and an average of 19.7 hours spent on the app monthly, it’s no surprise that it surpasses expectations and maintains its reputation as the leading social media platform. In 2024, there are more than 200 million active small and medium business pages, and each month, over 20 billion messages are exchanged on Messenger with businesses. When I think about these...

Unexpected Tuesday

Yesterday was quite an eventful Tuesday, and I wanted to share all the highlights of my day! I started off my morning with a solid workout at the gym. As a soccer player, my main goal is to get stronger and faster, and lifting weights is essential for that. I focused on some compound movements, like squats and deadlifts, which help build overall strength. After an hour of lifting, I felt accomplished and energized to start the day. Once I finished at the gym, I rushed back to my apartment to get ready for class. I was looking forward to attending Social Media class; however, as I was getting ready, I received a text from a classmate asking if we had class. I suddenly realized that Dr. Aggy had informed us last week that we didn’t. While I was a bit caught off guard, I decided to make the most of my free time. After that surprise, it was time for soccer practice. I arrived at the field with my teammates, excited to work on our skills and get ready for games this weekend in St. Louis. We...

The Power of Social Media Marketing

In Chapter 3, I deepened my understanding of Social Media Marketing Strategy and Social Media Advertising. This is an area where I already have some experience, particularly with my landscaping company, SnowMow Solutions. This past summer, I significantly elevated both the company and my social media marketing efforts. To reach and assist people in my community, I knew I needed to enhance my social media marketing and advertising. I utilized various platforms such as Facebook, NextDoor, and Instagram to post flyers and ads for the company. I noticed that at the beginning of summer, I posted more frequently than I did toward the end, as I started to rely more on referrals and clients spreading the word about my services. This past summer, I managed to reach and help over 50 people in my community, which would not have been possible without the power of social media marketing and advertising. The chapter outlines several important steps in social media marketing and advertising, includin...

Weekend Away in Colorado

Image
This past weekend, the ONU Men's Soccer team traveled to Colorado for two games against top-ranked teams: Colorado College and the University of Texas at Dallas. Leading into the matches, Colorado College was ranked #7 in the country, and UT at Dallas was fresh off a great season, having made it to the NCAA playoffs. We knew going into these games that we needed a strong week of practice to be successful. Last season, Colorado College ended our season in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA playoffs, so a lot was riding on our first challenge of the weekend. To maintain our national ranking, our coaches stressed the importance of leaving with positive results in both games and reminded us that we couldn't afford a loss to either of these teams. The trip started bright and early this past Friday as we traveled to the Detroit airport from Ada at approximately 2 a.m. Looking ahead, I knew it was going to be a long day, especially considering we would be playing later that day against Col...

Podcast: Austin Rosebeck

Image
For my podcast, I had the privilege of talking with Austin Rosebeck. He is a seasoned multimedia technology expert with a diverse skill set that stretches across various industries. He manages the social media for ONU Men's Soccer, where his expertise helps to enhance the team's online presence and engage with the community. Additionally, Austin has a strong background in producing music videos, having worked with several artists to create impactful visual content. His work reflects a mixture of technical and creative vision, making him an important figure on social media. I started off the podcast by asking him to tell the audience a little bit more about himself and his background in social media. He began his social media journey in high school when he was inspired by some of his favorite YouTubers to pursue a career in it. In his journey year, he was allowed to go to school for it, which he did, and "the rest is history,” he states.  I then decided to dive deeper and ...

Winning Weekend

Image
This past weekend was an important test for the Ohio Northern University men’s soccer team. We faced a challenging schedule with two highly anticipated matches against top-tier opponents: the #12-ranked Calvin College and Hope College. The weekend showcased our team's skill and desire and allowed me to catch up with old friends and enjoy some cherished family time. Our first test came on Friday evening against Hope College. The game was tightly contested and fiercely competitive throughout the duration. Hope College was determined to give us a run for our money after a 7-0 win in their previous game, but our team's game plan and strategies were well-designed. In a game that came down to the final whistle, we managed to be victorious with a 2-1 win. Starting the weekend with this hard-fought victory set a positive tone going into the game against #12 ranked Calvin College less than 24 hours away. Waking up on Saturday morning with excitement from Friday’s win still fresh, we...

Chapter 12: Blogs, Vlogs, Podcasts, and Webinars

After reading Chapter 12 on Blogs, Vlogs, Podcasts, and Webinars, my knowledge of these different forms of content creation has expanded further than it already was. All of the different forms were interesting to me, but the one that hit home for me the most was Vlogs and Podcasts. Growing up I've always watched vlogs ever since I have had a phone and social media. To this day, I tend to watch at least one per day of some of my favorite influencers and content creators. Whether it's a day in the life, behind the scenes, or prank vlog, these videos provide a great insight into their lives and are very entertaining to me. Additionally, I enjoy listening to podcasts and have really started to become more of an avid fan of them over the past 2 years. I have liked seeing the growth of celebrities, athletes, and influencers, starting podcasts and allowing us to get a glimpse of their personal lives. Vlogs first became relevant in the early 2000s, but it was not until the launch of ...

Embracing Change

We are about 2 weeks into the new school year, and I am finally starting to get back into a good routine. I have bought all my textbooks on time, figured out the quickest routes to get to my classes, and got through the long, dreaded syllabus week. For me, these are all very important and key things to start in the right direction. Thankfully, I have made it through and have continued to pick up right where I left off academically. Also, I have had to learn some new skills along the way, tackle various unexpected challenges, and completely redefine how I get through my days, as a Junior in the Apartments compared to a once underclassman in the dorms.  Living in the apartments has forced me to pick up a much-needed skill and ability, cooking. I have never been a great cook let alone a good one. After relying on and crossing my fingers for a good Macintosh meal in the past, I am now required to watch YouTube videos on how to cook certain meals to get by. I have also had to learn how ...

The Power of Social Media (Chapter 1)

Social media has become a major factor in job hunting, especially in marketing. Since younger people and generations are so familiar with these platforms, they're in high demand for managing social media accounts for companies. There has been a huge shift from traditional ads to social media, with platforms like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram (now X), and TikTok changing how we connect and advertise. The book shows how fast social media grew compared to older technologies. Social media ads reach a lot of people and can build brand loyalty, but they don’t always convert into sales as effectively as expected. They also reach larger audiences and different areas of the world in a matter of seconds. Understanding the difference between engagement and actual conversions is key to successful marketing. As a young aspiring marketer, I look forward to working with different social media platforms and helping build companies social reputation. Growing up, I truly can't ...
