Live Tweeting in St. Louis
This past weekend was an important one for our soccer team
as we traveled to St. Louis to play against Washington University. This is a reflection
of what my time looked like from Friday evening to the game on Saturday.
After practice on Friday, we packed our bags and left around
6 PM. The bus ride was very long and uncomfortable, but we embraced it and had
a great time regardless. I also took the chance to send my first tweet on the
bus ride to let everyone know I’d be live-tweeting our game the next day. I was
a bit anxious thinking about how it would all turn especially because I didn’t know
how I would use my phone while we were on the field, but it all worked out in
the end!
Saturday morning started well with a nice hotel breakfast. I
enjoyed warm cinnamon rolls, crispy potatoes, biscuits, and sausage gravy. It
was one of the better hotel breakfasts I've had, and it was the perfect start
to the day. After breakfast, we went outside for some morning yoga. This helped
us stretch and start waking up to get us ready for the game in a few hours
Once yoga was done, we returned to our rooms to grab our
gear. On the bus ride to the field, we stopped for Chick-fil-A, which I was
really happy about since it’s my favorite fast food. The meal made the day even
better, and it was a fan favorite amongst the team.
When we arrived at the school, we did a walk-through on the
field to get a feel for the turf. We typically do this at away games to get
mentally prepared. After the walk-through, we went back to the locker room to
get ready for our warm-up. Our warm-up was intense, we did possession drills,
took shots on goal, and did band activation work.
Finally, it was time for kickoff. The first half was tough, both
teams were pushing hard, and it ended in a 0-0 tie. We were all determined to
find the back of the net. In the second half, Washington University scored two
goals, and we ended up losing 2-0. It was disappointing because we knew we
could have played better. Losing also meant we would likely drop in the
national rankings, which was hard to accept.
After the game, we packed up our gear and headed back to the
hotel. It was a quiet ride because most of us were reflecting on the match and
what we could’ve done better. Once we arrived, we had mandatory pool recovery,
which felt great after the game. It helped us relax and recover our muscles.
Later, I sent out my final tweet to wrap up the day and share my thoughts.
Overall, I enjoyed live-tweeting the experience, but it was
also stressful. As an athlete, managing your phone during the game can be tough while trying to stay focused. Still, I was glad I could share our team's
journey with everyone. This weekend didn’t go as expected, but I’m looking
forward to our next challenge!
Sorry to hear that you guys lost but I know that you guys will definitely bounce back. Live tweeting the experience sounds stressful but i'm glad that you were able to get it done and sounds like you were successful in doing it.
