Winning Weekend

This past weekend was an important test for the Ohio Northern University men’s soccer team. We faced a challenging schedule with two highly anticipated matches against top-tier opponents: the #12-ranked Calvin College and Hope College. The weekend showcased our team's skill and desire and allowed me to catch up with old friends and enjoy some cherished family time.

Our first test came on Friday evening against Hope College. The game was tightly contested and fiercely competitive throughout the duration. Hope College was determined to give us a run for our money after a 7-0 win in their previous game, but our team's game plan and strategies were well-designed. In a game that came down to the final whistle, we managed to be victorious with a 2-1 win. Starting the weekend with this hard-fought victory set a positive tone going into the game against #12 ranked Calvin College less than 24 hours away.

Waking up on Saturday morning with excitement from Friday’s win still fresh, we had to shift our focus to Calvin College on Saturday, who were riding high as the #12 team in the nation. From the start of the game, it was clear that our team was ready to make a statement. We executed our game plan perfectly, showcasing different tactics and strategies we had mastered in practice throughout the previous week. During the game, it became a showcase of our ability to control the pace and dominate on the field. The scoreboard reflected this too, as we secured a very commanding 5-1 victory. It was a huge win for us because it assured us we would move back into the Top 25 rankings.

Additionally, facing Calvin College gave me the chance to reconnect with some high school teammates who are now playing for Calvin. It was a nostalgic experience, catching up with friends who I have shared the field with over the years. Adding to the excitement of the weekend was the presence of my family, who came out to support us. After the game, we went and enjoyed a good meal at El Campo, my favorite restaurant in Ada, Ohio.

We’re ready to build on the momentum from our recent victories this past weekend and approach the games coming up on schedule with the same intensity and focus. From our impressive wins to reconnecting with friends and enjoying family time, it was a memorable weekend. We intend to carry forward our winning ways and make the most of every opportunity on the field. Go Polar Bears!

It's good to hear you had a great time catching up with old friends and spending time with family. We often get busy in our schedules so it is nice to be able to reset and enjoy quality time with them.
