Marketing with Instagram!
Instagram has been a part of my life since I got my first phone in 6th grade, and I have managed to build my profile as the years have passed. In Chapter 5: Marketing with Instagram, several insights stood out to me regarding this social media platform. For instance, it mentions that Instagram is the 4th most popular social media platform in the world; however, if you were to ask me without prior knowledge, I would have assumed it was Instagram. Personally, it has been there through it all for me, and it remains my favorite app of all time. I always enjoy scrolling through to see what everyone is up to daily, weekly, or monthly. This chapter highlights a significant feature associated with Instagram that contributes to its success: the algorithm.
Instagram employs a variety of algorithms, classifiers, and processes to rank content across its features like Feed, Stories, Explore, Reels, and Search. Each section of the app has specific algorithms designed for its users. Instagram's goal is to deliver a personalized and engaging experience while maintaining a safe and positive community environment. The algorithm has always intrigued me—there have been several instances when I would be discussing something, like craving Chipotle, and an ad for it would suddenly pop up in my feed. It’s fascinating yet unsettling how it generates those ads and content right before my eyes.
Instagram has transitioned from a primarily photography-based platform to one that focuses more on creators, video, shopping, and messaging. As an aspiring entrepreneur and marketer, Instagram has created a platform designed to help people like me and businesses like mine succeed. In recent blog posts, I have discussed the importance of social media marketing and its impact on my life. I use Instagram to market my landscaping company and to interact and collaborate with other businesses in my area.
Overall, Instagram continues to transform how consumers shop, as businesses leverage its seamless shopping features. The platform also gives users much more control over their in-app experiences, such as the ability to manage what they see and who views their information and content. What was once a primarily photography-based platform is now an app designed to help evolve and grow businesses and support content creators!
